Why Fencing

For kids

  • It appeals non-violently to the child's sense of play.
  • Promotes discipline, self assurance, and responsibility.
  • Develops coordination, strength, and decision making skills.
  • Provides positive interaction with peers and adults.
  • And most importantly, fencing is FUN!
  • For teenagers

  • Great scholarship opportunity. Fencing is an NCAA sport, just like football, tennis, soccer, and baseball. Check out NCAA Fencing to see the list of colleges recruiting for fencing teams.
  • Fencing is an Olympic Sport. If you ever dreamt about being in the Olympics, you may want to give it a try!
  • Fencing is really a great place to meet people and make friends for life. COOL factor among your friends. On a scale of cool, fencing tops most sports.
  • And most importantly, fencing is FUN!

    For adults

  • Fencing is an excellent mental exercise.
  • It helps relieve stress, which can have health benefits such as lowering blood pressure.
  • It is also a great way of countering stress.
  • Great work-out.
  • If you are tired of lifting weights and running on a treadmill, fencing is your answer. It is estimated that a 180-pound man will burn about 380 calories per hour fencing.
  • It is a solid workout - working the buttocks, stomach and thigh muscles in particular, while increasing the fencer's stamina and coordination.
  • Great social atmosphere.
  • Fencing is a great place to meet people and make friends.
  • Competitive edge. If you like to compete - you can start to compete in fencing at any age, even over 60... Fencing is like golf, there is no age limit in fencing, you can do it at any age.
  • COOL factor among your friends. On a scale of cool, fencing tops most sports.
  • And most importantly, fencing is FUN!

Also, fencing has much to offer in life lessons: making decisions on your feet, dealing with an imminent problem and constantly thinking tactically. Fencing requires one to be responsible for his or her own actions, as no one can score a point in fencing... except the fencer! No amount of coaching, no matter how well done, can score a point for a fencer. They must accomplish this on their own.

Feedback from New Students

OMG! It was so much fun! I will be joining after the first of the year. I can't wait!
Awesome, place great deal and instructors. The class was a lot of fun and I am planning on taking more lessons as soon as possible.
It was a great experience, and I will be signing my 9 year old daughter up for classes..
This was a great deal for such an amazing time! The lesson was very informative, everyone had a lot of fun, and how often can you say you trained with someone ranked 5th in the world? Just be ready to get your heart rate up, as everyone was challenged physically more so than we all thought going in. Can't wait to return and continue training. Thanks Utah Swords Academy! - Adam O
